“Diversity – thy name is Hubert Laws” as he moves freely between mainstream jazz, funk and the concert music of Stravinsky. Laws’ effectiveness with such a wide range of styles harkens to his gorgeous sound, with its centered, overtone-rich qualities, the inherent rhythmic drive in his melodic lines and an imaginative harmonic vision.

The result is a virtual seminar in the interpretive potential of the flute. When Mr. Laws plays the daredevil, harmonically intricate material that establishes him as the leading jazz flautist of his generation... watch out ! !

About the band: pianist David Budway is a masterful player in the midst of present day jazz pioneers... John Leftwich, bassist and composer, has toured with everyone from Dizzy Gillespie to Rickie Lee Jones... ‘Brush master’ Clayton Cameron’s dynamic career continues to push the envelope of contemporary drumming to its very limits... keyboardist Rob Mullins has has recorded 16 CD’s. Three of which went top ten on Billboard and has toured with Ronnie Laws, Dianne Reeves, Dave Grusin and James Moody.

This performance is made possible by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.
