Jazz saxophone legend and Grammy Award winner, Pharoah Sanders made his name with John Coltrane's late ensembles of the mid-'60s, Sanders' later music is guided by more graceful concerns. To quote Coltrane... "Pharoah is a man of large spiritual reservoir, always trying to reach out to truth. He's trying to allow his spiritual self to be his guide. He's dealing, among other things, in energy, in integrity, in essences."

"Sanders has never stopped imbuing his performances with the tone of a spiritual quest. " — The New York Times

"Mystic, showman, preacher, musician – the bracing, immense sound of his tenor still commands attention " — Chicago Tribune

Sanders retains the power to surprise and delight” — jazztimes.com

With soulful balladeering now tempering his titanic eruptions, Pharoah Sanders has become the complete saxophonist. It’s been quite an evolution for the roaring iconoclast who once made even late-period Coltrane sound reserved; these days Sanders’s naked expressivity is the crucial element in his openhearted approach. He’s joined here by the pianist William Henderson and his trio.

Pharoah Sanders is one of the most legendary jazz musicians in history. His instantly recognizable tone and distinctive style has influenced a generation of saxophonists. Sanders is often remembered for his work with John Coltrane, but his recordings and appearances over the past forty years have distinguished him as a musician with a style all his own. His sound is immensely powerful and emotionally charged. His music has always been free spirited, challenging and full of multicultural themes.

Nearly fifty years after polarizing listeners with his free-jazz squalls, the saxophonist Pharoah Sanders has attained classic status as a soulful, passionate stylist ! !
