Cyrille Aimée

The eyes of the music world are already on young vocalist Cyrille Aimée. Her current CD “It's a Good Day” just released on Mack Avenue is a stunner! She has won the Montreux Jazz Festival's International Vocal Competition, the Sarah Vaughn International Jazz Vocal Competition and was a finalist in the Thelonious Monk Vocal Competition.
In the words of Will Friedwald from his Wall Street Journal feature on Cyrille (and vocalist Cecile McLorin Salvant), he declared “Both are astonishing creative singers, with a brilliant sound, fresh ideas, impeccable rhythm and an overall approach that honors tradition without being shackled to the past and Aimée is one of the most promising jazz singers of her generation.”

Quote Excerpts:

“. . . a saucy, curly-haired jazz singer with one foot in tradition and the other in electronics.”

“. . . one-woman rhythm machine”

“. . . all about freedom: exuberant whirlwinds of scatting, a sly, insinuating way with a phrase, or the sudden wistful turn that her delivery of a lyric can take.”

“. . . airy free and irrepressible.”

“. . . huge joy of life. When she sings you feel like she's jumping rope in a school yard. It's so natural!

“. . . whimsy born of rigor and exactitude.”
