Gerald Clayton

The Jazz Bakery is thrilled to present Gerald Clayton in his debut headline performance at Zipper Hall! Clayton’s search for self-expression has led to a synergistic approach to music, bringing together electrifying collaborations with some of the finest artists of our time, including Charles Lloyd, Diana Krall, and the late Roy Hargrove. With harmonic curiosity and critical awareness, he develops musical narratives that unfold as a result of both deliberate searching and chance uncovering.

“One could argue the entire history of the piano is encapsulated in [Gerald’s] playing, melting into a new creation altogether.” Gary Fukushima, Downbeat Magazine

Gerald will be featuring Elena Pinderhughes, who at just twenty-seven years old has established herself as one of the preeminent flautists in modern music. Her sound, steeped in tradition yet percolating with harmonic and rhythmic invention, has led her to sharing the stage with the likes of Herbie Hancock, Esperanza Spalding, and Carlos Santana.

“Pinderhughes’s lovely, agile flute playing brings something new to Hancock’s music, a breezy, fluid timbre that encircles and floats over the rhythm section.”
Richard S. Ginell, San Francisco Classical Voice

“Those who’ve been lucky enough to hear her live know that Pinderhughes promises much for the future of jazz.”
Charles Waring, uDiscover Music
