The Jon Cowherd Trio features three of the most imaginative, sensitive, and wide-ranging artists in modern jazz: pianist and Hammond B3 player Cowherd, bassist John Patitucci, and drummer Brian Blade.

The group’s newest release, Pride and Joy, reunites a trio with deep roots together. Cowherd and Blade have shared a close relationship for more than 25 years, ever since their college days at New Orleans’ Loyola University. The two co-founded the Grammy-nominated Brian Blade and the Fellowship Band, one of the most revered ensembles in contemporary music. It was through Blade that Cowherd met Patitucci, the drummer’s bandmate in the Wayne Shorter Quartet.

Jon Cowherd, Kentucky-born, New Orleans-schooled, New York-based pianist, composer, arranger, and record producer. Cowherd is best known for his long-running partnership with drummer/bandleader Brian Blade, with whom he co-founded the Brian Blade Fellowship, whose acclaimed, influential albums showcase Cowherd’s stellar keyboard work and singular compositional skills. When not recording and touring with the Fellowship, Cowherd has worked extensively with a broad array of players and singers from the jazz, pop and rock worlds, including Myron Walden, Marcus Strickland, Cassandra Wilson, and countless others.

A native of Shreveport, Louisiana, Brian Blade established himself as a dazzling, versatile, accomplished drummer early in his career, appearing on albums by the likes of Joshua Redman, Kenny Garrett, and Bob Dylan. Blade released his first album, Brian Blade Fellowship, at the age of 27 in 1998 and followed two years later with Perceptual, both on Blue Note. Always an in-demand sideman and collaborator, Blade continued to find work with a varied bevy of artists, including Joni Mitchell, Bill Frisell, and Wayne Shorter. Ten years after releasing his first album as the Brian Blade Fellowship, Blade returned with Season of Changes in 2008, this time on Verve. A year later he released the solo Americana, an effort with singer/songwriter Mama Rosa, for the label.

John Patitucci has been at the forefront of the jazz world for the last 30+ years and active in all styles of music. He is a four-time Grammy award winner, has been nominated over twenty times and has played on many other Grammy award-winning recordings. He has performed and/or recorded with jazz giants such as Dizzy Gillespie, Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, Stan Getz, Michael Brecker, Kenny Garrett, Victor Feldman, Nancy Wilson and countless others. John has also performed and or recorded with pop artists such as John Mayer, Alicia Keys, Joni Mitchell, Sting, and Paul Simon. He has been active as a composer with sixteen solo recordings of his own, and has been commissioned to write for various chamber music groups. Patitucci has been involved in education for many years, writing books, making instructional videos and giving master classes around the world.
