Miguel Atwood-Ferguson is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, arranger, music director, producer, and educator from Los Angeles, California. He has recorded on over 600 albums, films and TV shows, collaborating with the likes of Ray Charles, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Stevie Wonder, Quincy Jones, Henry Mancini, Smokey Robinson, Wayne Shorter, Billy Higgins, Ray Brown, Brad Mehldau, Hubert Laws, Dr. Dre, Sly Stone, George Clinton, Questlove, Chaka Khan, Erykah Badu, Meshell Ndegeocello, Robert Glasper, Anderson.Paak, Flying Lotus, Kamasi Washington, Thundercat, and many others.
Atwood-Ferguson has a rare ability to effortlessly bridge diverse genres and generations of musical and cultural elements into cohesive and magical presentations, and it’s his ability to connect with music of all styles, forms and traditions that sets him apart.
In 2023, after 14 years on and off in the making, Miguel released his first solo album, the 3.5 hour, 52 track ‘Les Jardins Mystiques Vol. 1’ (The Mystical Gardens), which Downbeat Magazine gave a 5 out of 5 star review and the famed British newspaper The Guardian named #1 Contemporary Album of the Year and labeled ‘a masterpiece’.
The Jazz Bakery is proud and excited to announce the launch of a special concert series on the east side of Los Angeles, presented at the beautiful and intimate Motivo LA in Atwater Village! The six-concert series, curated by Daniel Rotem, will feature Los Angeles based artists, all creative forces to be reckoned with in the vibrant local music scene, performing boundary-pushing music that transcends the idioms of genre.
