Roberto Miranda has been in Los Angeles since he was eight years old. His first music teacher was his father, Louis Raphael Miranda. Roberto's first instrument was congas which he learned from the elder Miranda. He has studied bass with Bob Stone, Peter Mercurrio, Fred Tinsley, Dennis Trembly, Bill Rene, Diana Gannett, Ray Brown and Red Mitchell. He holds a Master's Degree in Music from USC and studied composition with George Huessenstamm. Roberto lists four people as his jazz mentors. They are Bobby Bradford, John Carter, Horace Tapscott and Kenny Burrell. He has recorded and toured with all four of his mentors as well as with Charles Lloyd, James Newton, David Cherry, Vinny Golia and many others. Roberto is currently a full-time music teacher with LAUSD and is the string bass instructor for the Jazz Studies Program at UCLA.
