Sometimes less is a LOT more!
For Charles Lloyd, it would be easy and appropriate to simply say “this jazz titan needs no introduction” but let's have a taste of a just a few current accolades…
“Lloyd is the rare jazz artist whose every appearance qualifies as an event! The New York Times
“A bottomless fount of jazz imagination.. the churn, energy and humanity in his playing linger in the mind.” Doug Ramsey, Rifftides
“At 80 years old, Lloyd is in the middle of one of the more artistically successful periods of his career. He is responsible for some of the most interesting jazz releases in recent years.” Hiram Lee, WSWS
“when Duke Ellington famously observed: “there are two kinds of music – the good kind, and the other kind,” he might have had Charles Lloyd in mind.” Monterey County Weekly
Pianist Gerald Clayton is Lloyd’s choice for this duo, (the most demanding and transparent of forms). GRAMMY-nominated pianist/composer, Clayton searches for honest expression in every note he plays. His music is a celebration of the inherent differences in musical perspectives that promote true artistic synergy. Gerald has toured and recorded extensively with saxophone legend Charles Lloyd.
Gerald is known as one who hungrily seeks opportunities for creative musical exchanges with other artists. This inspiring evening with NEA Jazz Master, and iconoclast saxophonist, Charles Lloyd, will be one to treasure!
Celebrate Charles’ 80th year.
☆ The Jazz Bakery is indeed fortunate to present this special Duo in the intimate theater setting of our homebase... The Moss Theater at New Roads School in The Herb Alpert Educational Village.
